A goal, a purpose, a utopia, an end, is in itself divisive. If someone says, ‘I want to help you. I love this place, and I want to help you,’ I may say, ‘Come, let’s work together. There is no purpose, there is no goal.’ I will put my very best into it because I love this place. I don’t mind them telling me, ‘Please sweep the garden path.’ I say, ‘All right, that is part of the place.’ You see, all status and prestige disappears, and pure function remains.
The vision
The Centre was founded in the spirit of Krishnamurti’s vision of creating spaces where one could live and learn, free of authority, methods, or organised programmes. As he expressed:
“This is a place of learning and austere living with inward discipline, and work, without guru, without leader, and without a system of meditation or working.”

Sustaining the Centre
The Centre functions under the J. Krishnamurti Self Education Society, an independent trust. Its running costs are met in two ways.
- Guests contribute a littleThe modest daily contribution asked of participants is kept well below the actual cost.
- Well-wishers give the restOperational expenses are met through guest contributions and donations from well-wishers.
- No one is turned awayYour gift means no one deeply interested in enquiry has to stay away.
